Extra Credit #3

For extra credit I decided to listen to a podcast by ''Switched on Pop'' titled ''Willow Smith Rocks Harder''.  This podcast was an interview with Willow, and they talked about how great her sound is and just what led up to the album ''Coping Mechanism''. She talked about her darker sound she possessed in the album. She talked about how she had always wanted to create an album that had that Rock sound. In this album she wanted to really put her love for harder Rock or Metal into the album. She wanted to go both uglier and prettier at the same time, which is why it was so unique and great. She went on to talk about her collab with Young Blood and how she learned so much from that experience. This collab really helped her bring out that creativity that she needed in order to create that sound that she had envisioned in her mind. They talked about her first song on the album ''Why'' and how she felt when she was creating t...

The podcast I chose from Switched on Pop was titled ''The Soft Sounds of Kali Uchis''. This podcast was a live interview with Kali Uchis and they kind of talked about a little bit of everything. They First talked about how she has collab with some big names in the industry including artist Tyler the Creator. They then talked about the song she made titled ''Loner'' which was a huge hit that helped her get discovered. She mentioned when talking about the making of the song she did the song all in one take, which I thought was truly incredible. She also began at one point to talk about her love of poetry and how she incorporated that love into her music to give it her own personal touch. She mentioned how many of her songs are based on the time in her life as a child where she felt alone, and this is her opening up and showing why she feels it's important to be strong and to not be afraid to stand alone. They then go into her first album in 20...

I listened to an episode of ''Switched on Pop'' titled '' Why do new Christmas Songs Fail?'' and here is what I learned when listening to the podcast. So, to start they talked about the iconic song by Mariah Carrey titled '' All I Want for Christmas is You''. I didn't realize how old this song is, I truly thought it was made not too long ago. Second, they talked about the 1950 song titled '' Rocking Around the Christmas Tree'' by Brenda Lee. Something interesting they talked about was that Brenda was 13 when she created that song. Third they talked about '' Jingle Bell Rock'' which was created in the year of 1957, which I had no idea it was made that long ago. Next on the list surprisingly was ''Holly Jolly Christmas'' which they talked about how upbeat the song is and how iconic it is still to this day. The songs that were in the top 5 were all from the 1950's besides the Mar...

For this week I decided to analyze the song '' Psycho Killer'' by Talking Heads. The reason behind choosing this song is because I actually grew up listening to this song and have loved it since day one. It had been so long since I've heard this song, so I took the opportunity to listen to it once again to get that nostalgic feeling. The Bahh bahhh bahh and the run run away part of the song was always a part that many people most remember about the song including myself. I never really took the time to listen to the lyrics until now and I realized it's a much different meaning than the one I had in my mind as a child. I must say it was a song that was done quite well, and it will be remembered as a classic for many years to come. I totally enjoyed listening to the song and I highly recommend it to everybody.

For this week I decided to analyze the song  "Hotel California" by The Eagles. The reason I chose this song is because this was a song, I had grown up listening to and I wanted to not only analyze it but also just to listen to this masterpiece. I have to say the Eagles outdid themselves with this one, it is just a classic and I don't think there's anybody out there that wouldn't want to listen to this song. You know it was kind of weird because for the longest time I really thought the song was really about a hotel in California, which we all know it's not. The crazy thing is though many people have different interpretations of what they think the song means and I find that really fascinating. I love the sound of the bass and instrumentals throughout the entire song it just really gives it that Hotel of California feel to it. As for the lyrics they did an outstanding job at making the lyrics open to interpretation which is the coolest part o...

For this week I decided to listen to and analyze   "Respect" by Aretha Franklin. I chose this song because the title looked very familiar, and I wanted to see if I really have heard it or not. So, after listening to the song, I realized I have heard it. Not only have I heard it I realized it's a song I grew up listening to. I guess I just didn't put two and two together. The song is nothing short of a  masterpiece. Aretha Franklin has one of best voices I have ever heard in my life, something about it seems as if she could sing just about anything and it would sound great. Throughout the entire song she displays some great range in her voice that just captivates your attention and has you wanting more. I thought the song was written and executed very well and that's why it is so beloved and well known even to this day. Overall, it's a beautiful song that I recommend everyone listen to.

Unit 7

For this unit I decided to go with the song  "Good Vibrations" by The Beach Boys. I decided on this song because I have heard of the Beach Boys but never really had the opportunity to sit down and listen to them. So,  I felt as if this was the perfect time  to listen to them and really develop my own opinion about their music. The first thing straight off the bat that I noticed was how great of voice they have. They started out the song with a tone and feeling that was quite different from the chorus or the hook of the song. I really think this group is very talented and that they have such a  creativity to their lyrics and sound that has you wanting more and more of their music. It has a story that all of us can relate to, if you have ever met someone that makes you feel good inside this is a song that puts that feeling in a 3-minute display for you to listen to whenever you please. I thought the Beach Boys are not only great vocalists, but they ...
