I listened to an episode of ''Switched on Pop'' titled '' Why do new Christmas Songs Fail?'' and here is what I learned when listening to the podcast. So, to start they talked about the iconic song by Mariah Carrey titled '' All I Want for Christmas is You''. I didn't realize how old this song is, I truly thought it was made not too long ago. Second, they talked about the 1950 song titled '' Rocking Around the Christmas Tree'' by Brenda Lee. Something interesting they talked about was that Brenda was 13 when she created that song. Third they talked about '' Jingle Bell Rock'' which was created in the year of 1957, which I had no idea it was made that long ago. Next on the list surprisingly was ''Holly Jolly Christmas'' which they talked about how upbeat the song is and how iconic it is still to this day. The songs that were in the top 5 were all from the 1950's besides the Mariah Carrey song, which I thought was really interesting to say the least. At number 17 on the list, they also talked about the song by Ariana Grande titled '' Santa Tell Me'' which they complemented very highly because of her wide range and her beautiful vocal abilities in the song. They also talked about the song by Jay Z ''99 Problems'' because of how similar the beat was to Ariana's ''Santa Tell Me''. Justin Bieber also made the list with the song ''Mistletoe'' which I personally thought was one of the best songs that made this list even though the podcasters did think so themselves. Overall, I thought the podcast was very interesting and entertaining to say the least.
