Week 2 post

My song of choice for this week to analyze was coo- coo by Dink Roberts. I honestly was drawn to this song based solely on the title. I thought the title of the song looked interesting and I thought I'd want to give it a try by analyzing it for the week. What I found after analyzing this song was how relatively short the song was. Most songs that I have grown up listening to are usually a lot longer than this song. This song was at most a paragraph in length. I loved how unique the singer's voice was I truly have never heard anything like it before. I noticed how this song didn't have a hook of any kind, which was common for songs back in the time when this song was created. I liked how the song kept you guessing, it would start to lead you with a specific melody and switch it up at a time you wouldn't expect. Overall, my favorite part of this song was its uniqueness of it and how different it sounds from anything we have today. Also, another great part of the song that I absolutely loved was the very end where they just end up laughing forever, it seems. So, if you haven't gotten around to hearing the song quite yet I strongly encourage giving it a listen.

  1. I thought the lyrics to this song were kind of funny, I loved the banjo in the background!

  2. I agree that this song is definitely unique and nothing like the music we have today. I like to look back and listen to songs from back then to see how far America has grown musically.

  3. There are two things that stick out to me when you're talking about things you noticed about the song. First, I feel like have the songs I LOVE, are always way too short, granted, they're not as short as this song is, but still I tend to feel like I can never get enough of them. Second, I love when songs add nonmusical endings to their pieces, such as the laughing you mentioned. I feel like with current music it can be a little cheesy, but when it's done right, I feel like it adds a lot of character to the song :)
